What you can do with Action Cam App

Quick and easy creation of eye-catching movies

Action Cam App is a free application that allows you to easily create impressive videos through intuitive operation from videos shot with the Sony Action Cam.

App Top Screen

a Import

Imports images shot with Action Cam to the smartphone.

b Create Movie

Movie editing possible. Additionally, you can save still images of your favorite movie scenes.

c Create Time-lapse

You can create time-lapse movies with Interval Photo Recording / Time-lapse capture mode.

d Project

You can resume editing by tapping the thumbnail.

e My Album

Thumbnails of movies and still images created using Action Cam App are displayed. You can play them on the app in your smartphone by tapping the thumbnail.

Information is displayed.

Create Movie

  • Cutting, trimming, and slow motion editing of multiple videos shot with Action Cam available.
  • Flip videos vertically/horizontally and add music to create impressive videos.
  • Create high quality 720 (HD) or 1080 (Full HD) videos.

Create Movie from Projects

  • When you exit editing during Create Movie, the edited content up to this point is saved as a Movie Project.
  • You can resume editing if you tap Project on the top screen of the app. You can change project name if you tap Project name on the top screen.

Create Time-lapse

  • Create Tim-lapse video(up to 30sec) with Pan and Zoom IN/OUT effect.

Create Time-lapse from Projects

  • When you exit editing during Create Movie, the edited content up to this point is saved as a Time-lapse Project.
  • You can resume editing if you tap Project on the top screen of the app. You can change project name if you tap Project name on the top screen.

View created movies and still images

  • Movies and still images created using Action Cam App are displayed as thumbnails by tapping my album on the app top screen.
  • You can play them on the app in your smartphone by tapping the thumbnail.

* If you use HDR-AS30V or HDR-AS15, update the camera's system software to the latest version.

Some products may not be available in some regions.

Note

Android :
4K videos cannot be edited. 240p (NTSC)/200p (PAL) videos may not be edited normally depending on smartphone's capability.


iPhone :

  • 4K videos are converted to 1920x1080 resolution.
  • High bitrates such as 100Mbps, 60Mbps, etc. are automatically compressed.

Import an image on the smartphone

1.Connect Action Cam and smartphone via Wi-Fi.

1.1 Set Action Cam's Wi-Fi connection.
  • FDR-X1000V
  • HDR-AS200V / AS100V

Press the NEXT button or PREV button to select [SETUP]-[CONFG]-[Wi-Fi]-[ON], then press the ENTER button.

  • FDR-X3000
  • HDR-AS300 / AS50

1. Press the MENU button.

2. Press the UP button or DOWN button to select (Camera Settings)- (Wi-Fi connection setting) - (ON), then press the ENTER button.

  • HDR-AZ1

Press the Wi-Fi button of Action Cam to set the setting of Action Cam to (Single connection).

  • HDR-AS30V / AS20

Press the NEXT button or PREV button to select [SETUP]-[Wi-Fi]-[ON], then press the ENTER button.

  • HDR-AS15

Press the NEXT button or PREV button to select [SETUP]-[RMOTE]-[ON] , then press the ENTER button.

1.2 Confirm that Action Cam is in the shooting mode.
  • / LOOP : Loop recording mode
  • / MOVIE : Movie mode
  • / PHOTO : Photo mode
  • INTVL : Interval photo recording mode
  • : Time-lapse capture mode

* Shooting modes vary depending on the product.

1.3 Set the smartphone's Wi-Fi connection.

Select Action Cam SSID from the smartphone's [Settings]-[Wi-Fi] and enter the password (only the first time).
The SSID and password can be found in the user manual or attached to the backside of the battery cover.

Android

[Hint]
After activating the Action Cam App, you can connect to Wi-Fi by touching the Action Cam with a smartphone using the NFC function on an Android smartphone equipped with the NFC function.

iPhone

If the password is lost

  1. Connect the Action Cam to a computer with the micro USB cable (supplied).
  2. Turn on the Action Cam.
  3. Display [Computer] - [PMHOME] - [INFO] - [WIFI_INF.TXT] on your computer, then check the user ID and password.

2. Activate Action Cam App and import images shot with the Action Cam to the smartphone.

After activating the Action Cam App, tap [Import], and select video or Interval Photo Recording / Time-lapse Capture timelapse cluster. After the selection is made, images can be saved to the [From Action Cam] folder on the smartphone when [Import] is tapped.
After images have been imported to the smartphone, you can edit them on the smartphone.

After images are imported to the smartphone

iPhone:
When canceling the Wi-Fi connection between the Action Cam and smartphone, perform the canceling operation on the smartphone, then perform the following operations to turn off the Action Cam.

  • HDR-AS100V / AS30V / AS20 / AS15
    After selecting [PWOFF] with the NEXT button, press the ENTER button.
  • FDR-X1000V / HDR-AS200V
    After the ENTER button has been pressed and [PWOFF] is selected with the NEXT button, press the ENTER button.
  • FDR-X3000 / HDR-AS300 / AS50 / AZ1
    Press the POWER button.

Android :
Wi-Fi connection with the Action Cam is canceled when returning to the top screen of the app from the [Import] screen. Turn off the power of the Action Cam afterwards.

Note

Interval Photo Recording / Time-lapse Capture timelapse clusters are created per shooting start date and time for still images shot with the Interval photo recording mode / Time-lapse capture mode. To import Interval Photo Recording / Time-lapse Capture timelapse clusters to the smartphone, there must be over 30 images within a timelapse cluster.

Create Movie

Procedures to Create Movie

Procedure 1 : Importing video on a smartphone
Import a video shot with Action Cam from [Import] on the top screen of the app after the Action Cam is connected to a smartphone via Wi-Fi.

Procedure 2 : Editing video
Start video editing from [Create Movie] or [Movie Project] on the top screen of the app.

Procedure 3 : Saving or sharing movie
You can save or share edited movie.

You can start creating new movies by tapping [Create Movie] on the top screen of the app. When you exit editing while creating movies, the edited content up to this point is saved as a Movie Project. You can resume editing if you tap [Movie Project] on the top screen of the app.Additionally, you can save still images of your favorite movie scenes on the movie editing screen.

a Create Movie

You can create a new movie.Select a video you want to edit from [Add Videos] on the editing screen. You can select several videos.

You can resume editing of saved Projects.

What you can do in the editing screen

Add Videos

You can add videos to be edited from videos imported to the smartphone from the Action Cam. You cannot edit thumbnails that are grayed out.
⋅ iPhone : Videos imported to the iPhone from the Action Cam are saved in the [From Action Cam] folder.
⋅ Android : (icon) is displayed on edited video thumbnails.

N Capturing still images

You can save still images of your favorite movie scenes. Saved still images are saved in the "Action Cam App" folder of your smartphone.

N Cut and Trim

You can cut and trim a segment of the video.

O Split

You can split the video.
[Hint]
You can cut the video by swiping from the top to the bottom on the playback screen.

P Speed

You can set the playback speed.
To add a speed adjustment area, after sliding (Android) or (iPhone) to the area where you want to make an addition, select (Add Videos).

How to set the speed adjustment area
⋅ iPhone : You can make detailed settings of the speed adjustment area by sliding the blue area of (starting point) or (ending point).
⋅ Android : You can make detailed settings of the speed adjustment area by long-pressing the blue area of (starting point) or (ending point).

Note
⋅ 4x/8x/16x fast edit may not be operated when you use short length video.
⋅ 240p(NTSC) videos cannot be 4x/8x/16x fast edited on iPhone.
⋅ 200p(PAL) videos cannot be 8x/16x fast edited on iPhone.

Q Flip Vertically

You can flip your video vertically.

R Mirror Flip

Use the mirror flip to correct selfie videos.

S Delete

You can delete selected videos.

Add Music

You can select and listen to samples of music in your smartphone to be applied as the movie's music.
[Hint]
In the editing screen, if you hold down the blue area on the starting point and slide it, you can playback music from your desired position.

S Export

You can save or share a video combined of edited movies to your smartphone. Videos saved in 720p will have their file size limited, making it easy to upload movies.Exported movies are saved to the Action Cam App folder in the smartphone.

Create Time-lapse

Procedures to create time-lapse movie

Procedure 1 : Importing an Interval Photo Recording / Time-lapse Capture timelapse cluster on the smartphone
Interval Photo Recording / Time-lapse Capture timelapse clusters are created per shooting start date and time for still images shot with the Interval photo recording mode / Time-lapse capture mode of the Action Cam, and time-lapse movies can be created by timelapse cluster. Import Interval Photo Recording / Time-lapse Capture timelapse clusters from [Import] on the top screen of the app after the Action Cam is connected to a smartphone via Wi-Fi.

Procedure 2 : Editing time-lapse movie
Start video editing from [Create Time-lapse] or [Time-lapse Project] on the top screen of the app.

Procedure 3 : Saving or sharing time-lapse movie
You can save or share edited time-lapse movie.


You can start creating new time-lapse movies by tapping [Create Time-lapse] on the top screen of the app. When you exit editing while creating time-lapse movies, the edited content up to this point is saved as a Time-lapse Project. You can resume editing if you tap [Time-lapse Project] on the top screen of the app.

What you can do in the editing screen

Setting OFF

Turns OFF all the Pan and Zoom in/out settings.

Pan (right to left)

Pans from the right to left within the shot field angle.

Pan (left to right)

Pans from the left to right within the shot field angle.

P Zoom in

Zooms in to the center of the screen.

P Zoom out

Zooms out from the center of the screen.

Add Music

You can select and listen to samples of music in your smartphone to be applied as the movie's music.

S Export

You can save or share a created time-lapse movie to your smartphone. Videos saved in 720p will have their file size limited, making it easy to upload movies.Exported movies are saved to the Action Cam App folder in the smartphone.

Time-lapse movies that can be created

Number of still images Movie frame rate
30 - 900
  • Frame rate: 30fps (fixed)
  • Movie playback time: 1 - 30sec
    * Depending on the number of still images, the movie playback time will change.
901 - 1799
  • Frame rate: 30fps (fixed)
  • Movie playback time: 30sec (fixed)
    * If the number of still images exceeds 900 images, the number of images is automatically thinned out.
1800 or more
  • Frame rate: 60fps (fixed)
  • Movie playback time: 30sec (fixed)
    * If the number of still images exceeds 1800 images, the number of images is automatically thinned out.

Note

  • If the number of still images is 30 or less images, time-lapse movies cannot be created.
  • The frame rate and playback time of movies are automatically set depending on the number of still images.
    * You cannot set a random frame rate or playback time for movies.
