Media File Import

Importing images from the DVD drive/Memory Stick slot of a computer

You can import the videos and still images stored on a disc or a “Memory Stick” by inserting the disc/“Memory Stick” into the DVD drive/Memory Stick slot of your computer.

  1. Insert a recorded disc/“Memory Stick” into the DVD drive/Memory Stick slot of your computer.
  2. Click icon at the top of the window.
    Or, select [Import Media Files] in the [File] menu.
  3. Select [Handycam/Computer (Disc)] or [Digital Still Camera/Memory Stick (DCF Format)], and then click [OK].

    When you select [Handycam/Computer (Disc)]

    The window used to select the drive/folder for the videos to be imported from/to is displayed.
    The videos recorded on a disc are displayed, scene by scene, as thumbnail images. Follow steps 4 to 7.

    You can check the contents by playing back the selected video.The selected screen appears in the preview box in the upper right. Preview the contents using the playback control buttons.

    When you select [Digital Still Camera/Memory Stick (DCF Format)]

    The window used to select the drive/folder for the still images to be imported from/to is displayed.
    Jump to step 6.

    Hint

    • The still images are imported all at once. You can not import selected still image.
  4. Select the video you want to import.
    Click the scene thumbnail to check the box. If you want to import all the scenes, click [Select All].

  5. Click [Next].
    The window used to select the destination folder for imported videos is displayed.

  6. Select the destination folder for imported videos or still images.

    Note

    • The default location for the destination folder is set as [My Pictures]. You can change the destination where imported files will be saved in the window that is displayed when you click [Change].
  7. Click [Import].
    The import of the selected videos or still images starts.

To import still images from a Memory Card to a computer via a USB cable

You can import the still images on a Memory Card to a computer with connecting your camcorder and a computer.


  1. Turn on your camcorder, and connect it to the computer using the USB cable.
    Use the AC Adaptor as the power source.
    For how to connect your camcorder to a computer, refer to the Operating Guide.



    The [USB SELECT] screen is displayed on the LCD screen of your camcorder.
  2. Select [iconCOMPUTER] on the LCD screen of your camcorder.
    The [Import Media Files] window is displayed on the screen of your computer.
  3. Select the drive for the images to be imported from.
  4. Select the folder for the images to be imported to.
  5. Click [Import].
    The import of selected images to the selected folder starts.

Changing the Media File Import Settings

By clicking [Change] in the [Import Media Files] window, you can change the following settings for importing Digital Still Camera/Memory Stick (DCF Format) images in the displayed window.

If you do not want to import images that have already been imported, select the [Do not import duplicates] check box. If you want to delete the images from your media after importing them into the computer, select the [Delete media files from media after they are imported to a computer] check box.

Note

  • These settings are ineffective if the images imported from the write-protected media.
Media detection settings Set the image import method for when media is connected to the computer.
If you want the import images confirmation dialog box to be displayed when you connect media to the computer, click the [Show import confirmation dialog box] radio button. If you want images to be imported automatically, click the [Start importing media files automatically] radio button.
